Melkam Fasika!

Melkam Fasika! It's already Easter in Ethiopia. This year Easter is on the same day in both the western and eastern calendar systems, which is not always the case. Check out these beautiful photos of the Fasika preparations.

Here is some interesting information about Easter/Fasika and the difference between the western and eastern calendar systems.

When we were in Ethiopia at the end of February the fasting had already begun. Orthodox Christians abstain from all animal protein, including meat, milk & eggs.

Here are the Orthodox churches we visited, St. Mary's and St. George's (named after St. George the dragon slayer and built after an important Ethiopian military victory against the Italians).
Each church is octagonal and has 3 levels representing the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
